At the Literacy Council of Sarasota, our work is guided by a simple but powerful belief. When adults have access to essential reading, writing, and language skills, they are better equipped to thrive. Families are strengthened. Workplaces grow stronger. Communities benefit.

Every day, adult learners come to the Literacy Council with different goals and starting points. Some are building foundational literacy skills. Others are learning English, preparing for a GED, or advancing through our Future You Career Pathways Program. Together, these programs form a continuum of support designed to meet learners where they are on their journey and help them move forward with confidence. Progress looks different for every learner, but the outcome is the same: greater independence, expanded opportunity, and a stronger sense of belonging.

The impact of this work reaches far beyond individual achievement. Adult literacy is a cornerstone of economic mobility and civic engagement. When parents improve their literacy skills, children succeed at higher levels. When workers strengthen communication and job readiness, employers benefit. When adults are empowered to participate fully in their community, Sarasota is stronger for it.

This year, the Literacy Council is stepping into a new chapter. With a newly adopted strategic plan, the Board and staff have committed to a focused and intentional path forward. The plan sets clear priorities to strengthen programs, deepen partnerships, and ensure we are thoughtful stewards of the philanthropy that fuels our mission. It reflects both the responsibility we carry and the promise of what is possible. We invite you to learn more about this plan and the vision guiding our work.

As we unveil a refreshed brand, logo, and mission, we do so with gratitude for the community that makes this work possible. Thank you for believing in adult learners and for standing with the Literacy Council as we continue strengthening families, workplaces, and our community..

With gratitude,
Laura Randall, CFRE
