How do I become a tutor?
Call the Literacy Council of Sarasota at 941-955-0421 or email firstname.lastname@example.org. You can register to attend one of our ProLiteracy-Certified tutor training sessions, then choose a learner.
As a tutor, what is my commitment?
Tutors are encouraged to meet with their learners at least 1 time per week for 90 minutes.
Where do learners and tutors meet?
Learners and tutors meet one-on-one in public locations at least once a week. Most often, this is at a nearby Sarasota County Public Library.
Is there a cost?
Yes, we request a modest one-time $25 registration fee for tutors, and a modest one-time $10 registration fee for adult learners.
Are there other ways to donate?
Yes. We are grateful for the support of businesses and individuals in our community who help us further our mission. There are four easy ways to donate:
1. Send a check payable to “The Literacy Council of Sarasota” to 1750 17th Street Sarasota, Bldg. K-3, Florida 34234.
2. Planned Giving. You can extend your legacy of literacy to future generations by including the Literacy Council of Sarasota in your retirement plan, will, or living trust. Planned gifts—large and small—are a lasting way to help families develop self-sufficiency and long-term economic success.
