You can Make a Difference Through Literacy.
Become a Volunteer Today! You Don’t Need to Be a Teacher to Change a Life.
Many people are interested in volunteering, but worry they don’t have the right experience. The good news? You don’t need a background in education—or even know another language—to become a tutor.
We give you the training, materials, and ongoing support to help a learner succeed. You bring your patience, encouragement, and commitment—we provide everything else.
Together, we can help more adults gain the confidence and skills they need to thrive.
What We Providevolunteer tutors are at the heart of the Literacy Council of Sarasota.
Whether you're helping someone practice English conversation, prepare for the GED, or navigate everyday life, your support can create a lasting impact.
No experience is required. We provide the training, tools, and ongoing support you need to feel confident every step of the way.

“I thought I was going to be giving back to the students. I can't tell you how much those students have given to me in return... They think of us more as a friend than someone who's tutoring them.”
— Bob Kenel, Literacy Council Volunteer
