BASIC LITERACY PROGRAM

In this program, tutors help English-speaking individuals learn or improve reading comprehension, writing, spelling and basic math, and prepare for the GED. 

The LCS Basic Literacy Program serves adults with a wide range of abilities. Adults with low or no reading and mathematics skills can benefit from specialized instructional practices and assistance. It is student-centered and incorporates the student's self-identified educational, personal, community and job-related goals.

The Literacy Council of Sarasota's volunteers work one-on-one with each student. Thus, the Council is able to customize teaching to individual needs, providing a unique focus on enabling students to function better within the frameworks of their own life situations.
